About Puzzle Games

Puzzle is the genre that browser games are arguably best at. They're short enough to fit a quick session, single-mechanic enough to learn fast, and easy to iterate on - which has produced a constant stream of genuinely smart small games. Wordscapes, 2048, Block Blast, the entire match-3 industry - they all started life as puzzle games that found their format in this medium. We split our puzzle coverage into a few rough camps. Logic puzzles (Sokoban-likes, sliders, sorting games) reward thinking carefully before you act. Word puzzles test vocabulary and pattern recognition. Spatial puzzles work in 2D or 3D and reward visualization. Daily puzzles trade depth for habit, with one short challenge to come back for every morning. A good puzzle game has a clear rule, an obvious goal, and a difficulty curve that ramps faster than it feels. A great one introduces a single twist on a familiar format and squeezes maximum design value out of it. We look for both. The genre is too crowded for us to cover every game in it, so we curate aggressively here - only puzzles that did something specific and did it well make the cut.
